Who can apply?
Anyone committed to learning the skills necessary to make a difference in their communities who are between the ages of 22 and 35. We do not accept individuals who are part-time students or have other commitments.
What are the qualifications of a TOLA Fellow?
— Excellent interpersonal skills, keen analytical skills, and a desire to learn.
— Strong presentation, teaching, writing skills.
— Ability to work with diverse racial/ethnic communities and colleagues
— A reliable source of transportation (eg., car)
— Bilingual fluency is a plus
— Positive attitude
What is the time commitment?
Each TOLA Fellow commits to a full-time organizer’s schedule (up to six-days a week) for sixteen weeks.
Where does the training take place?
The training will take place in the City of Stockton, California.
California is at the forefront of environmental, health, and political activism. Stockton, California is centrally located close to the San Francisco Bay Area and the important Central Valley. Stockton offers the opportunity to work in a diverse community with significant needs.
Is housing provided?
We can assist, but each participant is responsible for finding their own housing. To assist with the cost, participants receive a monthly living stipend of $2,500 per month for the duration of the Fellowship.
Are recommendations required? Who should I ask to provide a recommendation?
Yes. TOLA requires 2 recommendations from individuals who have supervised your work in the past 2 years. Each recommender should complete the Recommendation Form accessible on the TOLA website.
What is the selection process once I apply?
Once your application is received we will send you a confirmation email. After all applications are reviewed some will be selected for an in person interview. At the end of the process all applicants will be contacted by phone on whether you have been accepted to the program.
Please note that there is a MINIMUM word count of 250 words for the questions: “What matters to you and why?” and “Why TOLA?”
