Motivating Others

By Lynn Wiggins - TOLA Spring 2011

After TOLA, I worked on 20 political campaigns. TOLA taught me that in order to motivate others, I’ve got to be motivated myself. If I’m not passionate or believe in the project, then how can I ask others to become engaged?

When volunteers walk through the doors of a campaign headquarters, they need to feel appreciated. Most importantly they need to be given the proper training and support to become involved. Sometimes not everyone can canvass or phone bank, but you can always find ways for people to get involved.

Motivating others and asking them to participate on a project or campaign is how you help community members develop a voice and participate in the democratic process.
